Summerhouse Estate: Fact or Fiction?
The Notorious Drug Gang Location in Top Boy
WEB Summerhouse Estate is a notorious drug gang location in Netflix's crime drama Top Boy. Set in the heart of London, the estate has become synonymous with crime, poverty, and violence. But is Summerhouse Estate a real place? Or is it simply a figment of the show's dark imagination?
The Real London Location of Summerhouse Estate
The answer is both yes and no. While the Summerhouse Estate depicted in Top Boy is not a real location, it is heavily inspired by a real housing estate in London, the Samuda Estate. Located in Hackney East, the Samuda Estate is a sprawling complex of tower blocks and low-rise housing. It is an area that has been plagued by poverty, crime, and social deprivation for decades.
In fact, the opening episode of Top Boy's third season features a scene in which immigration officers detain a teenager on the Samuda Estate. This scene is a stark reminder of the real-life issues that residents of council estates in London face on a daily basis.
